Situated on the island of Norðurland separated from the mainland by the Norðurströnd strait along with bits of the mainland.

The Empire is ruled by an Emperor or Empress. Below him are three kings/queens of the kingdoms of Meiri, Minni and Ytri. All four titles are absolute cognatic primogeniture. The main inheritor gains the title Emperor/Empress, King/Queen, while the spouse will become Archduke/Archduchess.

The title can only be inherited from the corresponding house (The Imperial House and the three Royal Houses). While technically impossible, imperial laws still dictate that no one person may hold more than one of these titles. 

The Empire's main capital is Borgarhásæti. Húsmusteri, Járnborg, and Sólskjöldur are the three capitals of the kingdoms, respectively.

These houses have several vassal houses and dukes belonging to them, each with their own vassal houses and counts and barons. Imperial law forbids open conflict between the kingdoms and the houses within.

Due to the strait, foreign invaders from the mainland must first break through Sólskjöldur to reach the only bridge into the mainland. many castles and redundancies make conventional attacks near impossible. multiple sea fortifications erected to prevent amphibious landings

Due to position, the empire has adopted a more isolationist policy, preferring not to deal with foreigners outside of trade.

due to political situation, many of the houses are victim to decadence and debauchery at the expense of the common man. While forbidden from open conflict, rival houses find more subtle and creative means of striking at one another.

Due to position, the empire is common stop for ships sailing around the west side of the continent. The empire is home to many master artisans and philosophers, and its main export are artisan goods such as swords and armor, tools, and luxury jewelry.
